Employee Engagement
One of our associates, Pam Teagarden, shared the following with us:

Employers want their people to:

Employees want:
1. Deliver   1. Be happy
2. Stay   2. Stay
3. Make happy   3. Deliver

and in that order!

This simple chart highlights one of the main issues surrounding employee engagement, i.e. the number one and three priorities are directly opposite for employer and employee – the employee will deliver and stay if they are made to feel happy whereas the employer will look for ways to make the employee happy if they deliver first and stay.

The leader’s role sits in the middle managing the relationship, its needs and wants.

We also believe that when looking at engagement the criteria an organisation needs to use is inextricably linked to the organisation’s brand and therefore its leadership brand. If for example, your brand says that you treat your customers as individuals, tailoring your offering to them and yet you do not do that for your people, they will become disengaged; if your brand is about fun and yet there is no fun to be had at work, your people will be disengaged.
